Tel'Laerad Scribe - The Record Keeper

Welcome to Scribe

Tel'Laerad Scribe is a service developed exclusively for Tel'Laerad with a simple purpose; to allow roleplayers and gamers to preserve their gaming sessions forever, and to share them with the world, as a part of our role as an online roleplaying, gaming, and chat locale.

This system comes in two parts. The first is this web-based interface, allowing users to create their own series of logs, add, edit, and reorder sessions, and displaying the results for all to see. Through this, logs can be added for not only IRC, but also forums and other text-based methods of communication.

Scribe also allows an IRC channel to be associated with a roleplay, to be used by its second half; an IRC service which will join the selected channel, and start and stop logging for that roleplay on demand to make recording sessions on IRC easy, saving its logs to the web-based interface at the end of each session, for display and further editing.

How to Read Logs on Scribe

Simply click on the desired series to the left to see its list of sessions, and click on an individual session to read it! It's as simple as that. To share series and sessions with other users, you can simply paste them a link. The sessions are listed in the order set by the manager of the series, as best suiting each series.

How to Add Logs to Scribe

Through the Website

To add logs to Scribe, you must be logged in via the Tel'Laerad Wiki. If you don't have an account on the Tel'Laerad website, you can create one there. If you are logged in, in addition to the "List All Logs" link in the sidebar to the left, you will see a "List My Logs" link.

From the list of your own series, you can create a new series. To add, edit, reorder, and delete sessions, simply view the session list of any series you own; you will see additional links for these actions. Simply provide a title and the text for a new session to have it added. As soon as your series and sessions are created, they can be viewed by anyone.

Note that you should be careful when deleting or editing logs, as there is no way to undo your changes.

Through the IRC Service

To have Scribe log sessions from an IRC channel, the manager must edit the series and set an IRC channel through this web-based interface, and grant Scribe a high enough access level (five by default) to SAJOIN itself to the channel through IRC Services. Scribe will join within around five minutes.

To start recording for a session, message the IRC service "START ", or say "!scribe start " in the channel. Messaging "START " or simply saying "!scribe start" in the channel will work if there is only one roleplay operating out of the channel. To stop Scribe, the same message with "STOP" in place of "START" can be used. Once recording is finished, Scribe will add the new session with a default title, ready for the manager to name and edit, if desired.

Scribe must have joined a channel for any recording commands to be used. In order to start and stop Scribe from logging for a roleplay in a channel, a user must have chanop (+o) status in the channel at the time they issue the command. This allows users who are not the listed manager of the series, but are chanops, to add sessions, for roleplays and games run by multiple people.
