FoxMUD (Affiliation)

FoxMUD is our affiliated and recommended text-based online RPG- a MUD, or Multi User Dungeon; if you've ever played an MMORPG or Zork, you'll be half-prepared for it, and if you've considered playing before, we encourage you to give it a try. Your character will travel through a world with unique, interesting characters and places, plenty of mobs to kill, unique magic, and an active group of immortals who continue to build and provide interesting challenges for the player base. At higher levels, team up with other players to take on tough bosses as you unlock the most powerful abilities of your class. The game is not very RP intensive, but a friendly player base and the game mechanics still create a fun gaming environment for fans of role-playing games.

Connect with a telnet or MUD client at www.foxmud.com port 4848, or log in at the FoxMUD website to play. An affiliate channel, #FoxMUD, exists on the IRC network for discussion outside of the game's own communication channels. For those on IRC using the irssi client, the following command adds an alias (/FoxMUD) to connect to FoxMUD in a new window: /alias FoxMUD window new hidden;window name FoxMUD;exec -name FoxMUD -nosh -interactive -window telnet www.foxmud.com 4848

NetHack

Tel'Laerad now brings you a NetHack server, for those who wish to play this most venerable and classic RPG. It is accessible via the web at our nethack website using a web-based terminal, or you can connect and play via either telnet or SSH, with it being only one command, "telnet NetHack.TelLaerad.Net 1337" in a terminal on most operating systems to connect and play using telnet. Check the NetHack wiki page for more information on getting connected and playing.

Also on our nethack website, you can find the last dump files for each player, as well as the raw highscore list and links to other resources, including the Nethack Guidebook, the only non-spoiler source of information to help you play the game, outside the game itself. If, on the other hand, you have little aversion to spoilers, we invite you to join #NetHack on our IRC network, where you can talk with other adventurers develing into the dungeon, and watch the deaths of other unlucky adventurers.

The Arcade (On the Website)

The Arcade, attached to the forums, was one of our first added gaming places, filled with amusing flash games, providing quick, casual gaming when you feel like a break, and highscore tables and tournaments to challenge your skills against the other players.

IRC Games

These are multiplayer text-based games run by bots on our IRC network.

IdleRPG

Idlers on IRC, we now have a place for you! Those who wish to test their connection, their lurking skills, and their luck can join IdleRPG running in #IdleRPG on the IRC network, register, and play. The objective is simple: connect, join, login, and do nothing. Your character advances and fights just by you being present and silent in the channel. Nick changes give no penalty in our version, so playing IdleRPG doesn't interfere with anything else you might be doing on the IRC network. Our version runs at a greatly accelerated event rate, making the game quite chaotic.

The accompanying website shows a list of players, their positions and item totals, and a map of the game world, as well as a list of commands for the game. More information on the current round and records of past winners can be found on the IdleRPG wiki page.

Trivia

Find out how many random facts you happen to remember, on subjects ranging from bands to dictionary terms, to science, to videogames, with our trivia bot running on IRC in #Trivia. Once started, it asks questions for as long as they'll be answered, increasing your score for every right answer, depending on the number of hints you needed to get it. Play with friends, people in the channel or brought from elsewhere, for a more... competitive and fast-paced experience.

Additionally, Team Trivia contests can occur, sometimes impromptu, in the channel, triggered by Tel'Laerad staff and channel operators, allowing players to join teams and compete against each other in groups. The points each player earns on the same team goes to increase the team's count as well as their own, and at the end, it can be totalled up and a winning team determined.

Enter !trivhelp in the channel for a full list of commands, and !trivia to start trivia if it not already running. If team trivia is on, !join <colour> to join a team, and !remove <your nick> to leave one.

Fives

An ArgentCitadel original, currently exclusive to Tel'Laerad! Concept and game design by Serian, it's a very simple dice game that revolves around rolling 10 dice in ways that score. Your goal is to make a score of 555 points over various rounds. Now playing in #Fives with our bot, Cinco, helping the game run and keeping track of points and dice. It's easy to pick up, especially if you're familiar with games like Zilch or Yatzee.

Uno!

For anyone who enjoys a quick card game, experienced Uno player or not, we now have an four-colour Uno bot (called Syrian) running in #uno on the Tel'Laerad IRC Network for your entertainment. If you don't know how to play, come along and give it a shot anyway; like most simple and popular games, it's very easy to learn. Any group of people, or even someone on their own can join and play at any time. You can come with friends, or find people to play with in the channel; if no one else plays, Syrian will join in as a second player.

Enter !unocmds in the channel for a full command list for the bot. It doesn't cover how to play Uno itself, so you'll need to find someone who already knows to play with you the first time if you're new to the game.

Blackjack

Anyone who enjoys a very quick game of cards with the classic fifty-two card deck can pop into #blackjack with their friends, to play with Spade, our blackjack bot. Start the bot with !blackjack, and follow instructions to play. The game is over exceedingly quickly, so it can easily be played while time is short, or you might need to leave quickly.

Poker

A slightly longer game of house poker is available in #poker with Croupier, who deals a few styles of poker games derivative of 5-card draw. Start a game with !start, use !help to check commands, and follow other instructions offered throughout the game to play a simple game of poker. Slight variations in rules are available for people with different tastes or for larger groups.
